Troost Avenue Streetscape 24th – 30th Street

Located near the Beacon Hill neighborhood, Taliaferro & Browne provided civil engineering and landscape architecture services for a full depth roadway replacement and streetscape for Troost Avenue from 24th Street to 30th Street. Awarded a Sustainable Success story by the Mid-America Regional Council (MARC), the project consisted of rebuilding the existing roadway from right-of-way to right-of-way which included excavation of the original Troost Streetcar tracks in several areas.

Green infrastructure components included curb extensions with bioretention gardens, and a heavily landscaped green center median that has transformed this segment of the Troost Avenue corridor while also serving as a traffic calming device.

Additional sustainable elements included energy-efficient roadway and pedestrian lights, new sidewalks and ADA-compliant ramps, and a HAWK traffic signal and pedestrian promenade linking the Beacon Hill UMKC Student Apartments to the UMKC Medical Campus. As part of the project replacement of the existing, 100-year-old water main within the project limits.
